Legislative Notes for March 10, 2011

March 6, 2011

This past week the legislature was on town meeting break.  I look forward to this break each year as it gives me an opportunity to see and talk to many of you about what is going on in Montpelier.  This year there are many very important issues being discussed that could have a dramatic impact on all of our lives in the very near future.  The budget deficit, the healthcare reform proposal, the restructuring of the tax system and the closure of Vermont Yankee are very important issues.  The decisions made by the legislature on each of these issues will impact you sooner or later.

The next few weeks are going to be very important in regard to the healthcare debate.  There are several hearings scheduled to allow public input before the legislation moves forth.   You need to make your voice heard if you are concerned about this issue and the proposals being considered by the legislature.  Please become informed and involved now before it is too late.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our school board for their diligent work on preparing the budget.  Our district was one of the few that actually met the goals established by the legislature last session in the “Challenges for Change” legislation.  I believe that this diligence was rewarded by the voters in passing the proposed budget on the first attempt.

As your representative, I look forward to representing you and your concerns in Montpelier.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I am very interested in hearing from you.  During the session, I can be reached at the Statehouse by calling 1-800-322-5616 or by cell at 373-5960. My email address is My web-site address is Thank you and have a great week.
